A Recipe for One of My Life’s Transitions

I’ve heard that one of the most powerful tools a chef has is their palate. You can understand how terrifying it is for me to equip my teeth, the guardians of my palate, with a full set of braces and undergo jaw surgery.

Yes, the dentist, the orthodontist, and I agree it is absolutely necessary for the health of my teeth and jaw. Suddenly, I can relate even more to my clients who are undergoing so many life changes, surgeries, babies, serious injurty, and who call on my services to help them through these transitions and heal.

I do what I’ve done my entire life when faced with a frightening situation; I decide what I’ll cook to soothe my nerves and nourish me.  My last trip to the library produced this book. It makes me happy and giggle to see another chef in braces.

I decide to stick with my cooking bible, The Joy of Cooking, for one of the freshest tastiest versions of minestrone I’ve ever tried. It is also a soft, braces-friendly food.
